Visual Communications Technology

A High School Program of studies in the digital realm of commercial art and design.

This program was first developed by Gertjan Zwiggelaar at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.  The program developed out of his Visual Arts Program when he began to utilize Apple Computers in the art studio to enable his students to begin using a new art making tool.  By 1998 Visual Communications Technology was a highly sought after program which eventually was picked up by all large Alberta high schools and became known as Vis Com.

Following are numerous examples of the levels of excellence achieved by Gertjan’s Vis Com 20 & 30 students.  Vis Com 10 was taught by two other teachers since the program became immediately successful and demanded more space and teachers after the first two months in which Gertjan began teaching this brand new program.
